Plea in Jharkhand High Court: Major corruption, embezzlement alleged in pre-matric scholarship funds

New Delhi (ILNS): The Jharkhand High Court has been approached by a lawyer, Md Shadab Ansari, through a letter Petition urging it to take suo motu cognizance of alleged irregularities and corruption in the minority scholarship scheme at the pre-matric level in the State.

The letter alleges large scale corruption and siphoning off of minority scholarship fund, sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

In his letter, Ansari has made an allegation that Aadhaar card authentication is being misused to make payments under the scheme, to such persons, who are not even students.

His Petition says:

“Due to the above corruption, many deserving poor students did not get the benefit of the scholarship, whereas many non-eligible persons have got the scholarship amount. It is therefore, requested that your Lordship may take suo motu cognizance of the above-noted issue and direct the registry to lodge a PIL so that the case may be monitored.”

The same is listed for admission hearing on November 27, 2020.
