Plea in SC to provide COVID vaccine to age group 18-44 years

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking direction to provide the Covid-19 vaccination to people belonging to the age group of 18 to 44 years and above in view of the rapid spread of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The petition filed by Advocate Rashmi Singh alleges,

“persons belonging to the said age group are more likely to spread the covid-19 virus as they constitute a major working population that moves around and comes in contact with other people.”

The petitioner submits that the marginalized sections of the population including daily wagers, laborers, persons falling below poverty line also form a large part of the said age group.

The plea has further contends that if another lockdown is imposed at a national level, immense hardship and loss of livelihood would be caused leading to a downfall of the economy and a wave of unemployment across the country.

The plea seeks direction to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to provide the Covid-19 vaccination to people belonging to the age group of 18 years and above.
