Allahabad High Court orders security for block pramukh candidate, her family for her to contest polls without fear

The Allahabad High Court on July 2 directed the police to give full security to a woman block pramukh candidate and her family so that she can contest elections without any fear.

The Division Bench of Justices Surya Prakash Kesarwani and Gautam Chowdhary passed this order while hearing a petition filed by Asmita Singh. In this petition, the grievance of the petitioner is that she is a candidate for the post of Block Pramukh, Palhana, Azamgarh district. One Maya Singh, W/o Dhruv Singh, and daughter of Member of Parliament Virendra Singh in collusion with the police of the district administration are causing continuous harassment of petitioner and her family members by misuse of the police force so as to compel the petitioner not to contest the election of Block Pramukh.

“The allegations made by the petitioner are serious in nature. Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the respondent is directed to file a counter affidavit by means of personal affidavit within a week failing which the Court may consider imposing an exemplary cost. The petitioner shall have three days thereafter to file a rejoinder affidavit,” the Court said.
