Bombay HC Disposes Of Petition Against ‘All Marathi Chess Association’

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday has refused to pass any directions on a plea filed by ‘Maharashtra Chess Association’ seeking directions to ‘All India Chess Federation’ on the issue that despite being not affiliated, All Marathi Chess Association projecting itself as an affiliated body.

The Court noted that respondent (All Marathi Chess Association) is not a party before them and therefore it cannot issue any directions. The petitioner informed the court that a tournament is proposed to be held on 30th May, 2020.

A Division bench of Bombay High Court comprised of Justice N.R. Borkar and Justice Nitin Jamdar while hearing the matter through video conferencing has said that “We are not opining on the merits of the rival case, as it is the function and responsibility of Respondent No.2 (All India Chess Federation) is to look into the grievance raised by the Petitioner.”

Therefore, the High Court directed All India Chess Federation that it will consider the petition as representation made to it and take necessary decision in that regard after verifying veracity of the assertions thereof and after giving opportunity to all the concerned.

The petitioner “Maharashtra Chess Association” was having the grievance that the Respondent No.3- All Marathi Chess Association, despite not affiliated with Respondent No.2- All India Chess Federation, is projecting itself as an affiliated body.
