Calcutta High Court disposes of PIL highlighting criminal cases against school headmaster

The Calcutta High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) alleging that though there are several criminal cases against the private respondent, while he was working as Headmaster of Kuli Chowrasta Sadharan Vidyapith (HS), but ignoring the same, the private respondent has been nominated as president of the Managing Committee of the said Vidyapith.

The counsel for the State though has submitted that since the petitioners are the guardians of the wards studying in the school, therefore, the grievance raised by the petitioners can be duly considered by the respondent no.4 i.e. Commissioner of School Education if appropriate representation is submitted before the said respondent.

Having regard to the above submission, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj observed that the present petition is disposed of by permitting the petitioners to file the appropriate representation before the respondent no.4.

The respondent no. 4 on receipt of the same will give an opportunity of hearing to all the concerned parties and will take a decision on the representation in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible preferably within a period of two months from the date of receipt of the representation, the Court directed.

The petition is accordingly disposed of by the High Court.
