Delhi court to take up defamation case filed by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia against BJP leaders next week

The criminal defamation case filed by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia against BJP leaders Manoj Tiwari and Vijender Gupta will now be heard next week.

During the hearing today, the lawyer in the case demanded the court to postpone the matter.

Earlier on December 17, 2020, the Delhi High Court had dismissed the petition filed by MP Manoj Tiwari and MLA Vijender Gupta against the summons issued by the trial court in the criminal defamation case filed by Sisodia. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court.

Alleging defamation on Manoj Tiwari, Pravesh Verma, Hansraj Hans, Vijender Gupta and Harish Khurana in the case, Sisodia had filed a case against all these leaders under Sections 499 and 500 of IPC for the purpose of lying and defamation.

On January 27, the Supreme Court had stayed the proceedings against BJP leader Manoj Tiwari on a plea challenging a Delhi High Court order, which had dismissed the challenge to summons issued against him by tge special MLA/MP court in the criminal defamation case by Sisodia.

In his complaint against Tiwari and BJP leader Vijender Gupta, Sisodia had said that the two leaders have levelled corruption charges against him.

A trial court in 2019 had summoned Tiwari and Gupta as accused in the criminal defamation case. In December the High Court had upheld the order. The two BJP leaders had then moved the apex court.
