Delhi court grants Shehla Rashid interim protection from arrest in sedition case

Jammu and Kashmir People’s movement leader Shehla Rashid who was booked for sedition charges was granted interim protection from arrest from a Delhi court on Tuesday.

The Patiala House Court’s Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Jain granted the interim bail to Rashid. Jain said: “Evaluating all the facts, I believe that matter necessitates probe in detail…Till then accused shall not be arrested, however, she shall join the probe as and when called by the Investigating Officer (IO).”

Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Jain then posted the matter for next hearing to Nov 5.

At today’s hearing, the Additional Public Prosecutor told the Additional Sessions Judge that the police had not even issued a notice to Shehla Rashid yet.

Counsel appearing for Rashid said that Rashid was ready to cooperate in the probe.

Rashid was booked for sedition over her tweets alleging human rights violations by the Indian Army in Jammu & Kashmir.

In a series of tweets, Rashid had alleged that Indian Army was arbitrarily lifting men, invading houses and detaining people in the valley.
