Delhi Court puts riders for interim bail to Umar Khalid including no media interaction and social media post

A Delhi Court has imposed a rider on Umar Khalid who was granted the bail to attend his sister’s wedding later this month for not interacting with the media upon release.

The Additional sessions judge Amitabh Rawat has very clearly said that under no pretext shall there be an extension to the interim bail period for Umar Khalid.

The order states that , while Umar Khalid, shall be released to attend his sisters wedding, he should not get in touch with any of the witnesses or tamper with the evidence.

Khalid has also been instructed to provide his mobile number where he shall be available at all times to the Investigating Officer. Khalid also has to make sure that he keeps his mobile phone open till the period of interim bail.

He will daily video call the investigating officer during the period of interim bail.

Another very very important condition imposed on Khalid is that during the interim bail period, he shall not give any interview or talk with media. He is also not allowed to post anything on social media.He shall not meet the members of the public.

He will be entitled to interact with his family members, relatives and friends during the marriage ceremony but during his entire interim bail period, he shall remain at his home except to attend marriage functions on 26.12.2022, 27.12.2022 & 28.12.2022 at the designated place.

The judge said that the police may guard the house from outside, but shall not go inside the house. 

Umar Khalid has been asked to surrender himself on 30.12.2022 before the jail authority on the expiry of period of interim bail, who will file a report to this Court.

The court directed his release from prison on December 23 following which he would surrender on December 30.

Khalid, arrested on September 13, 2020 in the case, has spent over two years in prison. He had sought 14 days’ relief to attend the wedding of his sister.
