The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the nodal officers appointed by the Delhi Government to provide ration to the displaced riot victims of Idgah relief camp at Mustafabad and directed medical officers to take proactive steps and provide medical help to these families.

Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves appearing for the petitioner Sheikh Mujtaba Farooq said that some of the family members of the 275 displaced families, may not have ration cards as their belonging were destroyed when their houses were burnt. The families need some free ration along with cooked food. He further raised concern with regard to cleanliness of the area as well as the drain which flows near the Shiv Vihar.

Amit Aggarwal, standing counsel for the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) in reply stated that two community centres one at Nand Nagari and the other one at Bhram Puri have been provided to the Delhi Government which could be used as relief camp to accommodate the families of riot victims. He also said that efforts are being made by the concerned authorities to ensure cleanliness in the area as well as cleaning of drain with limited resources. The residents of the area also have a duty to maintain discipline and ensure that fresh garbage and material is not dumped in the area or in the drain.

Rahul Mehra, appearing for the Delhi Government said that presently the government has decided to give 1.5 times of free ration over and above the entitlement for a period of three months to all ration card holders.

The division bench of Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva & Justice Navin Chawla observed that the nodal officers and medical officers are taking care of requirement of these 275 families and are taking proactive steps to ensure that these families do not face any problems and expected from the authorities that they will continue to work proactively in future as well. The bench did not passed any further order in view of the same and listed the case for further hearing on 4th of May, 2020.
