Delhi HC Dispose Of Plea Against Honey Singh’s Song “Moscow Mashuka”, Tells Petitioners To Approach “Relevant” Authorities

The Delhi High Court on Friday has directed petitioners to approach the relevant authorities, who had filed a petition to take action against singer/Rapper ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh’ and ‘Neha Kakkar’ claiming that they have defamed the sentiments of ‘Jatt Community’ by their song ‘Moscow Mashuka’.

The bench comprising Justice Manmohan and Justice Sanjeev Narula heard the matter through Video Conferencing and disposed of the matter with liberty to the petitioners to approach the relevant authority for their grievances.

A petition was filed by Mr. Bijendra Kumar and Mr. Chinmay through Advocate Dishank Dhawan and Amit Saxena who alleged that the Song ‘Moscow Mashuka’ has defamed the ‘Jatt community’ at large.

In the song, Neha Kakkar may be found singing that Daaru to tu tauba kare kahda jatt ve” translating to, what kind of jatt are you when you don’t drink liquor. The Song also allegedly associates Jatts with Gangster, Assault Rifles, Liquor, Prostitution, etc.

Through this petition, it has also been brought to the notice of the Court that there is no censor board as that of for Movies to censor and keep track of what kind of songs are being released.

The petitioner has sought the courts directions to take down the song from all the platforms and serve an unconditional apology to the petitioner and the ‘Jatt Community’.

Whereas, after the hearing, the matter was disposed of and liberty was granted to the petitioner to file a complaint before the Police and appropriate government bodies.

Mr. Dhawan while talking to India Legal said that they will be writing to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and other appropriate authorities regarding the issue and file a formal complaint to the Police against the Singers and Producers of the Song.
