Delhi HC stays Sudarshan News show “Bindas Bol” for allegedly defaming Jamia and UPSC Institution

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today has stayed the broadcast of the show called “Bindas Bol” on Sudarsan News channel titled “Big Expose on Conspiracy to infiltrate Muslims in Government Service”.

A single-judge bench of Justice Navin Chavla while hearing the matter through video conferencing issued a restraint order against the broadcast of the show.

The petition has been filed by current and former students of Jamia Millia Islamia University seeking directions prohibiting the broadcast and re-broadcast of the program “Bindas Bol” as the trailer of the show allegedly includes hate speech.

Advocate Shadan Farasat, counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the program allegedly contains the content that may defame, attack, and incite hatred against Jamia, its alumni, and the whole Muslim Community.

The petitioners submitted that “The proposed broadcast, if allowed to go ahead, would present a clear and present danger to the security of the Petitioners, as well as that of other students and alumni of Jamia Milia Islamia including those who cleared the Civil Services Exam in 2020, as well as the Muslim community at large, and would leave them open to the imminent threat of violence, including the possibility of lynching. This would amount to an extremely egregious violation of the right to life and personal liberty guaranteed to the Petitioners under Article 21 of the Constitution”

Yesterday, IPS Association condemning the trailer tweeted that “A news story targeting candidates in civil services on the basis of religion is being promoted by Sudarshan TV. We condemn the communal and irresponsible piece of journalism.”

The bench has further issued notice to the Central government, UPSC, Sudarshan News Channel, and its Editor-in-Chief.
