Delhi High Court lists plea seeking removal of Delhi Minorities Commission Chairman Zakir Khan to November 14

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday listed for November 14, a petition seeking removal of Zakir Khan from the post of Chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission for allegedly abusing his power and position to influence others and also for functioning as an ‘agent’ of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The High Court passed the order after the Counsel appearing for the Delhi government submitted that there were other similar writ petitions and sought time to place numbers of the writ petitions.

On July 13 last year, the Division Bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh had issued notice to the Delhi government, Delhi Minorities Commission and Khan on the petition filed by one Abdul Amir Amiro, resident of Jama Masjid area in the national capital.

The petitioner alleged that Khan abused his position in violation of the Delhi Minorities Commission Rules, 2000, besides maintaining close association with the ruling party by way of holding meetings with party members, attending rallies of AAP, announcing the policies of Delhi government and propagating the agenda of the party.

The plea further mentioned that Khan has posted images on his official social media account on several occasions proving his affiliation with the Aam Aadmi Party.

Alleging that Khan misused his position and Government money to promote the political party and achieve his ‘political gains,’ the petition sought directions to both the Delhi government and the Delhi Minorities Commission to revoke any benefits and suspend Khan’s pay or remuneration.

It further sought directions to the two respondents mentioned above, to take necessary legal action against Khan, as well as demand him to return the whole payment, which he has received after joining the service.
