To up its crackdown on modified silencers and pressure horns in Delhi, High court has directed the Delhi police to forefeit the pressure horns and modified silencers on vehicles in Delhi.
In the petition filed through advocate Harpreet Singh Hora, the Delhi police submitted a status report dated 16.10.2019 before the Division Bench of Hon’ble Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar.
The report stated that 6157 motorists have been prosecuted for using pressure horns and modified silencers. This comes after report dated 24.7.2019 that 6000 plus motorists were prosecuted for using such horns and modified silencers.
Advocate Hora informed the court that the areas covering University of Delhi campus are heavily marred by people using modified silencers and pressure horns but the police doesn’t take action. He also pointed out that there is difference as the number of modified silencers challaned is more but those haven’t been removed by police and the same be done strictly.
Last year on a petition filed against the use of modified silencers and pressure horns by a Delhi based NGO and a law student, the Delhi high court has taken a note of the use of such equipments.
In view of the status report submitted, the Hon’ble High court directed that those pressure horns and modified silencers be forefeited herewith by the police as mentioned in their status reports along with prosecutions and challaning them.
