Delhi High Court refuses to allow public Chhath Puja celebrations amid Covid 19

New Delhi (ILNS): The Delhi High Court today dismissed a plea challenging the order of the Chairman, Delhi Disaster Management Authority of not allowing Chhath Puja celebrations at public places amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chhath Puja is to be celebrated on November 20.

A divisional bench comprising Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subramonium Prasad stated: “If we give permission for such public gatherings, it’ll act as a super spreader of COVID-19.”

The bench further noted: “In today’s day and time, such a petition is belied by the ground reality.”

The DDMA has banned Chhath Puja celebrations at public places like riverbanks and ponds amid outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19.
