Andhra Pradesh High Court closes PIL after Govt says no plan to exchange temple land for building Ambedkar Convention centre

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has recently closed a PIL alleging that some land was exchanged for construction of the Ambedkar Convention Centre.

The PIL has been filed by Yella Naga Satish. The grievance expressed in the PIL is that an extent of Ac.0.81 cents out of Ac.1.72 cents in Sy.No.823-6 situated at Amalapuram Rural, Amalapuram Mandal, East Godavari District, belonging to Sri Chennamalleswara Swamy Temple is sought to be exchanged with Acs.6.40 cents situated at Uppalaguptam Mandal, East Godavari District, for the construction of an Ambedkar Convention Centre.

It is submitted by B. S. Shivaji, Government Pleader, that there is no such proposal for exchange of temple land. It is further submitted that a Division Bench of this Court, by an order dated 07.06.2015 in W.P.No.11812 of 2005, had prohibited alienation of the land of temples in any form, without obtaining permission from the High Court.

In view of the aforesaid statement of Government Pleader, the Division Bench comprised of Chief Justice Arup Kumar Goswami and Justice Ninala Jayasuriya found that the PIL need not be pursued any further and accordingly, the same is closed.
