Gauhati High Court closes PIL related to related to remedial measures in Post Graduation Law course

The Gauhati High Court has closed a suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) based upon the decision taken by the Committee of the High Court for certain remedial measures which were indicated in the field of post graduation in Law.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Rashmin Manharbhai Chhaya and Justice Soumitra Saikia noted from the report of the Committee, that already there were 28 Law Colleges, a National Law University and a Post Graduate Department of Law in the State of Assam as in the year 2014.   

The counsel for the Bar Council of India has submitted a report which relates to the position of Law Colleges in Assam, which are about 38 in number.

The detailed report has been submitted after due inspection of each and every Law College existing in the State of Assam. 

In light of the aforesaid, no further orders are required to be passed in this petition, observed the Bench.

The High Court directed that the respondent authorities, more particularly, the concerned Department of the State, shall consider the report and take all remedial measures to improve not only the infrastructure, but also the overall requirement of every Law College in Assam.
