India, declines Pakistan offer amid restrictions, wants unimpeded access to Kulbhushan Jhadav

According to several reports, India has turned down Pakistan’s offer for consular access to Kulbhushan Jhadav in its current form

“Indian officials have  sent a communication to Pakistan on Thursday, virtually turning down Islamabad’s conditional offer of providing consular access to Jadhav on Friday afternoon. They have asked for unimpeded access.” Said several reports

The Hague-based ICJ on July 17, accepted India’s demand to grant unrestricted consular access to Kulbhushan Jhadav. Thus, Pakistan’s offer  with several restrictions like the Presence of a Pakistani official at the time of the meeting seems in violation of ICJ’s direction.

However, Pakistan’s FO spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal in his weekly press briefing said that the consular access would be given in measure of the decision of the International Court.

But the offer presented to India, quite the opposite of the Court’s ruling. The arguments in the ICJ went on for over two years.  Jadhav, 49, a retired Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of “espionage and terrorism” in April 2017 following which India had moved the ICJ.

India has sent it’s response to Pakistan, reply of which is awaited
