Justice Satish Chandra Sharma takes oath as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court

The Swearing-in Ceremony of Justice Satish Chandra Sharma as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court was held today. 

The oath was administered by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at Raj Niwas in Delhi.

The Central government had announced the transfer of Chief Justice of Telangana Satish Chandra Sharma to Delhi recently.


The notification to the effect was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on June 19, 2022.

It stated that under the exercise of the power conducted by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President of India with due consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Chief Justice, Telangana High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and to direct him to assume charge of the office of the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.


Justice Satish Chandra Sharma has a vast experience in the field. He has served as Acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, prior to which he was serving in Madhya Pradesh High Court, where he served as additional judge on 18 January 2008 and a permanent judge on 15 January 2010.

Justice Sharma known for his contribution to the field of law by being part of many universities.He is an avid reader and has written some papers too.

He has been part of many National law universities including National Law Institute University Bhopal where he is  part of the advisory board.

The recommendation for Justice Satish Chandra Sharma was made by the collegium who wanted him to take the post of Chief Justice of Delhi.

The other prominent decision was taken by the when it recommended the elevation of Justice Vipin Sanghi, Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, as the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court.
