Madras HC Directs State Govt To File Report On Steps Taken To Bring Back Locals Stranded In Delhi

The Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Tamil Nadu government to file a status report with regard to steps taken for transportation for people stranded in different parts of the country.

The petitioner filed a writ petition under article 226 before the High Court seeking direction to the Government to take immediate action to transit the Tamil Nadu natives who are all stranded in different parts of the State due to lock down within the time stipulated by this court.

Mr. Ajmal Khan, Senior Advocate for the petitioner has said that they have already filed their representation along with a list of people to travel from Delhi to Chennai and who have been tested Corona Negative and competed their quarantine period and also undertaken to bear the transportation cost from Delhi to Chennai.

The Government pleader has said that all such Applications of various intending people stranded in different parts of the Country which are in huge number are being processed by a Nodal Officer and his team in this regard.

Acting upon the plea, the division bench comprising of Justice Vineet Kothari & Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayanan, directed the State to file a status report about the steps taken for bringing back the stranded people in various parts of the Country particularly in Delhi, the cause of which is espoused by the present Petitioner and observed that they belong to a particular community and had attended the Conference of Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi.

The High Court directed to list the case for further hearing on 12th May, 2020.
