The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday directed National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) to refrain from using plastic sheets in their construction activities which was proving detrimental to groundwater recharge.

During today’s hearing, the bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel was told by the petitioner that NBCC getting the expert opinion within one week from IIT seemed frivolous and should be looked into.

To which the expert member Dr Nagin Nanda said that it was a non-issue and the main issue was groundwater recharge.

The petitioner replied that the use of plastic sheets has been ruled out by NGT.

The bench asked the NBCC to comply and disposed of the petition.
