Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who was arrested in September on charges of raping a nun repeatedly between 2014 and 2016, was granted bail by the Kerala High Court on Monday.

The Court while granting bail imposed conditions that Mulakkal should not enter Kerala. The Court also said that he must surrender his passport and one in two weeks should appear before the police.

The Kerala High Court had rejected the bail to Bishop Mulakkal on Oct 3 on the grounds that there existed evidences against the Bishop.

Mulakkal was arrested on September 21. On September 24, he was remanded to two weeks judicial custody.

Mulakkal is the first Bishop in the country to be sent to jail on charges of rape.
