Pune district court withdraws notice directing women lawyers to avoid fixing hair in court

The District Court of Pune has withdrawn a notice issued on October 23, directing female lawyers to avoid fixing their hair in the courtroom, as it ‘disturbed’ the functioning of the court.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaising had shared the notice on social media, which said “It is repeatedly noticed that women advocates are arranging their hair in open court, which is disturbing the functioning of the Court. Hence, women advocates are hereby notified to refrain from such act.”

Jaising tweeted the notice with a caption, which said, “Wow now look! Who is distracted by women advocates and why!”

The Pune District Court, after receiving huge backlash, rolled back the notice.

This information was also shared by Jaising on Twitter. “Success at last, the notice had been withdrawn. Thank you everyone,” she tweeted.

Twitteratti went into a frenzy over the notice, with one user calling it ‘absolutely absurd,’ while another termed it as ‘extent of patriarchy’.

One Twitter user wrote, “What an absolutely absurd notice. The extent of patriarchy is just ridiculous.”

Another wrote, ” After some months, they will be distracted by the presence of women advocates and will ask women advocates to refrain from the act of entering court premises.”

Yet another said, “I don’t understand, How does it disturb court functioning.”
