Registration of workers should be dealt on a war-footing: Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court on Friday has directed the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers (DBOCW) Welfare Board to make sure that in the process of grant of renewal of registration of workers, there should be no laxity & the matter should be dealt with on a war-footing.

The bench comprising Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar while hearing the petition through video conferencing has directed the board to not lose sight of the fact that this entire exerciseis being undertaken to expedite the process of grant of renewal of registration.

The Court was hearing a petition filed by Social activist Sunil Kumar Aledia seeking directions to provide relief and mandated benefits to workers and migrant laborers.

Ms. Trehan expressing her apprehension stated that “even after the Advocates appointed from the panel of the DSLSA undertake the aforesaid task, the Board may sit-over the matter and the report furnished by the said Advocates with regard to the eligibility for renewal of registration may not be treated as final and acted upon by the Board.”

On this, the Court stated, “We are also of the view that the reports furnished by the Advocates, as aforesaid, should be treated as final and should be acted upon by the Board without any delay.”

The Delhi High Court has directed the DSLSA and the Board to work out on the issue of appointment of lawyers impaneled with DSLSA for the verification of the applications between them.
