The apex court today has issued a notice in a petition filed by Rajubala Das regarding the release of people detained for 2 years at the Detention Centers in Assam.
The petitioner, in this case, Mr. Rajubala Das is one of the detainees who have spent more than 2 years at the Detention Centers, he is seeking the release of detainees who have already been detained for more than 2 years in view of the spread of COVID-19 and overcrowding at the detention centers in Assam.
However, earlier in another case Supreme Court had directed for the release of people who have detained for a period of 3 years or more.
It has been alleged that people at the detention centers are living under unhygienic circumstances due to the overcrowding situation.
Supreme Court, in this case, has issued notice and the matter will be heard on 13th April 2020.
