UP court acquits SP MLA Nahid Hasan in attempt to murder case

A local court in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh has acquitted Samajwadi Party MLA Nahid Hasan in an attempt to murder case of 2019 due to lack of evidence.

Noting that the prosecution failed to prove the case against the accused, Special Judge at MP/MLA Court in Kairana, Surender Kumar acquitted the SP MLA and one Haider Ali on Friday.

Appearing for Hasan, Rashid Ali Chauhan contended that the charges against the accused have not been proven.

Additional Government Counsel Satendra Dhiryan stated that police had registered a case against Hasan and others under Sections 323,353,332,307 and 120b of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in an attempt of murder case and for disrupting the official work in Jhinjhana police station area of Shamli on July 11, 2019.

He said Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of UP Power Corporation, Nazim Ali had filed a complaint against the accused, alleging that Hasan and others had intercepted his vehicle and beat up an employee, when they were on way to a power substation in Jhinjhana area of Shamli district.

The SDO further alleged that Hasan had asked him to withdraw cases against some people regarding power theft, added Dhiryan.

Hasan had contested the 2022 Assembly election from inside prison jail and won. He was later released from jail after being granted conditional bail by the Allahabad High Court in a case registered under the Gangsters Act on November 30.
