Uttarakhand CM gets stay in sting case…Matter again on June 20

Chief Minister Harish Rawat won’t be arrested as of now in the case related to a purported sting operation where he has been shown offering money to rebel Congress MLAs to solicit their support. The Uttarakhand High Court stayed the arrest and will take up the matter again on June 20.

In its earlier ruling, the High Court had asked Rawat to appear before CBI for questioning. It had turned down the plea of the state government that the case, being probed by the CBI, be dropped.

The Court then had even questioned the authority of the state government on its notification for withdrawing the case.

The CBI had earlier rejected the notification, saying the probe was perfectly legal. The CBI was given the case during the central rule in Uttarakhand.

Rawat had appeared at the CBI headquarters for questioning on May 24 and was asked to appear again on June 7.

The CM has all along taken the stand that the sting video is not genuine.
