CJI DY Chandrachud directs registry to streamline listing of cases and provide automatic dates

During the open court, the new Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that that registry has been directed to streamline listing of registered cases in Supreme Court.

The CJI also said that he has asked the registry to provide automatic dates of listing depending on the day on which a petition is filed.

While talking about the mentioning of cases the CJI said all matters registered on Saturdays, Monday, Tuesday will be listed on next Monday and matters registered on Thursday and Friday will be listed next Friday.

CJI took this decision and discussed this with registry as all the past experiences say how listing of cases has always been a difficult task for CJIs.

Former CJI UU Lalit had introduced some sweeping changes to listing of cases.

Hearing of cases on non-miscellaneous days was one of the first changes introduced by CJI Lalit after he took over the office.

The norm earlier was to take up miscellaneous matters first and then proceed to the regular-hearing.

The changes by last CJI had madethat fresh petitions listed at the earliest, a trend which the current CJI would be expected to continue.
