Jagannath Temple maintenance: SC tells amicus to file report again especially on the conditions of affected people

The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed displeasure over the report submitted by amicus Ranjeet Kumar and told Kumar to submit the report again in the Jagannath Temple maintenance case.

The bench comprising Justices Arun Mishra, Vineet Saran and S Ravindra Bhatt was informed by the report that the premises which were encroached around the Jagannath Temple have now been freed from the encroachment and the people who were affected by encroachments have been compensated.

The bench perusing the report and the steps suggested directed the amicus and the Centre to conduct a scrutiny of the affected people and then file a fresh report regarding the same and also enlisting the new steps that have to be taken to ensure no injustice is done to the people.

The matter was adjourned for next hearing to Oct 22.

On the previous hearing, the amicus had requested the court to grant him 2 more weeks to file a detailed response on his visit to Jagannath Temple and file a report pertaining to the evacuating campaign by the Temple authorities.

The apex court was hearing a plea seeking stopping of irregularities in the management of Jagannath Temple in Odisha.
