Supreme Court issues notice to Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on discrepancies in appointment of judges, judicial officers

The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court over the appointments made in the past eight years in the High Court, without following the transparent selection process.

Coming down heavily on the Registrar General of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court for making appointments without publishing any advertisement and also not following the due process, the Apex Court directed him to file a counter affidavit in the matter within six weeks, addressed to the Chief Justice of High Court.

The petitioner had demanded cancellation of more than 100 appointments made in the High Court and at the Subordinate Judiciary level during the last eight years, allegedly without issuing of advertisement and not following the transparent selection process.

The plea further alleged that the relatives of the existing members of the court staff and the relatives of the sitting and former judges of the High Court were appointed, flouting all the rules and regulations.
