Live streaming of proceedings: AG Venugopal suggests it should not be allowed in matrimonial, national security and sexual assault matters

The Attorney General (AG) KK Venugopal on Friday (August 24) advised the apex court not to allow live streaming of cases involving matrimonial, national security and sexual assault.

The bench comprising CJI Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud was hearing a plea filed by a law student Swapnil Tripathi seeking live streaming of proceedings in SC courtrooms.

During the course of proceedings, the bench clarified that live streaming of proceedings being considered to be implemented in an experimental manner.

To which the AG suggested it should be started with the important cases in the CJI’s court.

The bench reserved its judgment.
