Loan moratorium: Supreme Court to pronounce judgment tomorrow

The Three Judges has reserved the verdict on December 17 last year after hearing Petitioners, Centre, RBI and intervenors.

The Supreme Court will pronounce its judgment on Tuesday in the matter of extension of loan moratorium.

The judgment will be delivered by the bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, MR Shah & Sanjiv Khanna.

The bench reserved the verdict on December 17 last year after hearing the petitioners, the Centre, RBI and intervenors.

The petitioners advocate Vishal Tiwari had sought modification of the original prayers in the petition which related to the extension of moratorium period up to December 31 on the ground that the present situation demands and necessitates that the moratorium shall be extended and granted up to March 31, 2021.

On November 19, the Centre had urged the bench to not intervene and provide further relief to borrowers under Article 32.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Apex Court on Monday that many relief packages and schemes had been worked out with technical experts and the intervention of the Court.
