Sajjan Kumar conviction in anti-Sikh riots: SC asks CBI to respond

The Supreme Court on Monday (Jan 14) asked CBI to respond to a plea of Sajjan Kumar challenging his conviction in 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The court will hear the matter after six weeks.

It may be recalled that Delhi High Court had sentenced former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar to life imprisonment in 1984 anti-Sikh riots after which he had surrendered before a city court.

On December 17, the court had sentenced him to imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life. Kumar was convicted for the killing of Gurpreet Singh, Raghuvender Singh, Narender Pal Singh, Kehar Singh and Kuldeep Singh in the Delhi cantonment area by a mob.

Kumar then had moved the Supreme Court challenging his conviction.
