The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a PIL seeking a direction to the Centre to declare Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit as parliamentary seats.

A bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on petitioner, Ram Kumar Yadav, a former RAW official.

Finding the plea legally untenable, the bench slammed the petitioner and said that “judicial interference was needed” and it can’t pass any orders.

The petitioner contented that as many as 24 constituencies were carved out by the government from PoK and Gilgit. On the same lines, the government should earmark two seats in the Lok Sabha for PoK and Gilgit, the petitioner said.
