SC to hear rebel Karnataka MLAs plea alleging non-acceptance of their resignations by Governor

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that it will hear the plea by Karnataka rebel Congress and JD(S) leaders alleging that the Speaker was not discharging his statutory duty and intentionally postponing the admittance of their resignations submitted with him since Saturday.

The court took the decision after senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi filed a plea and sought an urgent hearing on the matter.

The matter is likely to be heard tomorrow.

The Karnataka government is in political storm after 16 MLAs tendered their resignation reducing the Karnataka assembly to a minority.

Some of the rebel MLAs have shifted to Mumbai. On July 10, when Karnataka Congress senior leader and minister D K Shivakumar tried to meet the MLAs he was hooted outside the hotel where the rebel MLAs are camping.

On Tuesday, the MLAs had written a letter to the Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve alleging that “Karnataka leaders like Kumar Swamy and Shivakumar and others were going to storm the hotel premises” and pleaded for security.
