Supreme Court Issues Notice To Centre On Scrapping Of Article 370; To Be Heard Early October

The Supreme Court, after postponing a flurry of petitions relating to Jammu & Kashmir, finally acted on Wednesday by issuing notices to the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir government in all matters relating to Article 370 and the bifurcation of the state. The cases will be heard by a five-judge Constitution bench in the first week of October. The apex court has also refused the Centre’s request to appoint an interlocutor for J&K.

In a related development, it also issued a notice to the Centre seeking directions for relaxing media and communication restrictions. The government has been given 7 days in which to file its response on the matter. A plea filed by the Executive Editor of the Kashmir Times seeking free movement of journalists in Kashmir for reporting. Mrs Vrinda Grover, appearing for the petitioner said today was the 24th day of the strike.

The Press Council of India has also filed an application for intervention and the council had committed a sub committee to study the media scenario.
