Supreme Court pulls up registry officials for 1-year delay in listing a case

The registrar, additional registrar and other officials of the registry have been asked by the Apex Court to explain as to why a matter kept pending when it was ready to be listed.

Pursuant to direction by the top court on November 1, a report which was under signature of concerned registrar was placed before the bench today.

After the required documents were presented before the Supreme Court, the Bench of Chief Justice of India UU Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi summoned the listing authorities for explaining the lapse.

The Court has directed them to file a reply by November 12.

The Apex Court said that the report makes a reference to certain acts of some of the officials and sought explaination from them before the proceeding.

The Court has also directed sending copies of previous order along with today’s order along with reply by registrar and others.

The court has also told this in clear words that the concerned official shall also have a facility of inspection of the documents appended to the report of the registrars.

While hearing the case on November 1, the Court had directed to issue notice to the registry to give explanation as to why the matter was not listed for a year and a half, even though it was ready.

The Court further sought details from the registry about such similar cases, which were not listed for this period along with the remedial steps taken, if any.
