The Supreme Court has decided to hear on Friday, a plea by two women who entered Sabrimala Temple seeking police protection.

Senior Counsel on Thursday mentioned the matter before CJI Ranjan Gogoi after which he said the matter would be taken up on Friday.

Bindu and Kanakdurga both aged below 50 had entered the Sabarimala Temple to offer prayers on Jan 2 triggering uproar leading to substantial protests in Kerala. After their entry, a purification process took place in the temple.

Kanakdurga had been beaten up by her mother-in-law on Jan 15 as soon as she entered the house and was hospitalized .

Last year, the apex court had removed the prohibition on the entry of menstruating women into the Sabarimala Temple.
