SSC cancels CPO examination

By Siraj Khan

After  India Legal broke the story of SSC paper leak on March 21, the Staff Selection Commission(SSC) has cancelled the examination, accepting that the paper was “compromised”. In a notice put on commission’s website on March 21, the commission has informed the candidates that the re-examination would be held on June five.  SSC is a government organization that recruits staff for various ministries and subordinate offices.

“The Staff Selection Commission, in order to maintain the integrity and fairness of the selection process, has suo-motu decided to cancel the examination for the Recruitment of Sub-Inspectors in Delhi Police, CAPFs & Asst. Sub-Inspectors in CISF Examination, 2016 held on 20th March, 2016 because one paper of the afternoon session was found to have been compromised.”

The commission has cancelled the examination but does not mention in the notice if any enquiry would be conducted by the commission or not. “SSC notice of re-exam is a welcome step. SSC will have to find out the real culprits and must order an internal as well as request for a CBI enquiry. If the enquiry is not ordered or sought, I will move to the court,” posted Neetu Singh, who had uploaded a page of the question paper on Facebook.

But candidates were not impressed with the functioning of the commission. “It is good that SSC has cancelled the examination but why did t hey not ensure that  the paper did not get leaked in the first place? I had to travel to Jaipur from Delhi to appear for the exam. Now I’ll have to do it again,” lamented Imran Khan.

Candidates have also demanded that the exam be held online. “If IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) can conduct the examination online, why can’t SSC do the same?” asked Sonu Kumar.

The question paper of Staff Selection commission’s Central Police Organization examination was leaked on Facebook five hours before the examination on March 20.  Shocked students had demanded for the cancellation of the examination.

This is not the first time. SSC papers have leaked out in the past too. In 2013, a question paper of the SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination had leaked and had to be conducted again.
