Delhi HC issues notice to AAP govt on sale of electronic nicotine without any regulations

The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to Delhi government on a plea raising concern over the sale of electronic nicotine without any regulations.

During the course of proceedings, the bench comprising of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar was informed by the Centre that they have given advisory to the Delhi government about this as the drugs and cosmetics comes under the ambit of state’s list.

The petitioner Seema Sehgal told the bench that using of electronic nicotine, without any health advisory is more harmful and that is my concern.

Sehgal said: “The content of the Nicotine bar is around 30 compared to the normal cigarette having 0.5-1. More harmful for children whose getting impacted in the school. Today nicotine is more harmful than cocaine. The sellers on the sale of these e-cigarettes are doing marijuana in this under the garb of no regulations.”

The Centre replied: “There is no regulation in the meanwhile, we are doing it on the urgent basis.”

The court directed Delhi government to file affidavits through chief secretary within 10 weeks and also provide affidavits to other parties involved.

The matter will be heard again on July 19.
