The Delhi High Court on Tuesday (Feb 5) issued notice to Centre and Delhi government asking why The Delhi Maintenance and Management of Parking Rules, 2017 have not been implemented.

A bench comprising Justices GS Sistani and Jyoti Singh passed the order on the plea by one Setu Sharma seeking directions to take immediate steps for enforcing and implementing the provisions of the Delhi Maintenance and Management of Parking Rules, 2017 and take all the actions regarding monitoring and implementation of the rules.

“That even after almost eleven (11) months of the notification of the draft Parking Rules, the said rules have not been enforced and implemented by the concerned authorities. It is humbly submitted that the delay is only causing hindrance in resolving the issue of parking problem in Delhi.

“It is submitted that the roads in Delhi are clogged with vehicles parked on the roads. This can be witnessed in residential colonies, markets, as well main roads. Even in DDA and closed societies, in vehicles can be seen parked outside such societies as one house has more than 2 cars needing more than the allotted space,” the petition said.
