The execution warrants in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape case that shocked the nation has not been issued as yet, a Delhi court was informed on Thursday.

Special Public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan told the court that neither the execution warrant has been issued nor the curative petition filed. The court then asked  the Tihar jail authorities to apprise it on the current status of the legal remedies being sought by convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case. The case will come up again tomorrow.

The court was acting on the plea filed by Nirbhaya’s parents seeking to speed up the execution of the convicts.

On Nov 16, Nirbhaya’s parents had moved the Patiala house court seeking the transfer of the case to fast-track hanging of the four rapists to another judge.

The parents had knocked the doors of the court saying that the two judges who were hearing the cases were transferred leading to the sluggish execution of the convicts.

The advocate Seema Samriddhi Kushwaha who filed the plea had quoted as saying: “We knocked the doors of the court as justice in the matter is getting delayed due to the unavailability of the judge. Yet the case cannot proceed due to unavailability of the judge. We have approached the court seeking its direction to the jail authorities to expedite the execution process of the rape convicts.”
