Senior Counsel Vijay Hansaria, the amicus curiae in the subordinate courts’ vacancies case on Tuesday submitted a report to the Supreme Court dealing with central funding on the scheme for improvement of the lower judiciary for consideration of the Central Government.

Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta informed the bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose that he got the status report from amicus yesterday and needed time to consult the Union law ministry as it involved huge financial expenditure.

“Regarding the filling up of vacancies in various states and Union Territories the state government in consonance with the appropriate authorities shall inform the secretary general of Supreme Court on the status of filling up of vacancies in the lower judiciary,” the bench said and listed the matter for next hearing to July 30.

The apex court was hearing a plea raising concern on the 5133 vacant posts out of the total of 22036 posts in various subordinate courts and high courts in the country.
