The Allahabad High Court on Monday (January 15) has asked the Education Department, Uttar Pradesh and the state government to respond to a petition challenging the teaching of Licentiate Teacher (LT) grade teachers in class six to eight in aided non-government schools.

The bench of Justice MC Tripathi sought the response on the plea filed by one Harmendra Singh and others saying that according to the guidelines of the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), the students from Class 6 to 8 will be taught only by the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) passed teachers.

Counsel, Sreemant Singh representing the petitioners told the court that the responsibility of teaching Class 6 to 8 students in the aided non-government schools has been given to trained graduate LT grade teachers whereas NCTE has issued notification notifying TET teachers for teaching in primary and upper primary schools on August 23, 2011.
