The Supreme Court bench comprising of CJI Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud on Tuesday (May 1) disposed of a plea seeking stricter procedure for giving mobile connections and also re-verifying existing subscribers after it was informed by the Centre’s counsel that a scheme was in process in that regard and is likely to be passed by the monsoon session of the parliament.

The counsel also said that legislature is the competent authority and no orders should be passed by the court.

The petitioner has argued in the plea that there should be a definite mobile phone subscribers verification scheme and identity of each of the subscribers should be verified so that there should be no fake subscribers and misuse the connection.
