Maintenance of Rajghat: Have meeting with commissioner in 5 days to finalise plan, says Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday (May 23) gave five days to the Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, Central government, to convene a meeting a decide upon on an action plan for the cleaning up and the maintenance of Rajghat.

The court expressed its displeasure at the non-submission of the original plan of Rajghat to KP Ravindra, the court-appointed commissioner – he is the former chairperson of Delhi Urban Art Commission and an expert in the field. Ravindra had complained to the court that he had not been provided with the original plan.

Ravindra had done a one-day inspection and has submitted a report containing detailed photographs, maps and a plan. However, he said he was handicapped at not being provided the original plan of Rajghat.

The bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar gave the order on the plea pertaining to the maintenance of Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

The bench also directed the secretary to convene a meeting with Ravindra, the CPWD and the local commissioner to deliberate on the points which were identified by Ravindra during the inspection of Samadhi.

“Let the meeting be convened within the next five days. Action plan with timeline shall be placed by Ravindra on the next date of hearing,” the bench said.

The court listed the matter for next hearing to May 30.
