The National Green Tribunal (NGT) bench headed by Acting Chairperson Justice U D Salvi on Wednesday(January 17) issued notices to the Central government in a case in which Paryavaran Sanrankshan Sangarsh Samiti sought to assail the order of June 14, 2011 issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, granting final approval for diversion of 17.6857 ha of forest land in favour of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (HPPCL).

The forest land was supposed to be used for the construction of a 130 MW Integrated Kashang stage II and III Hydroelectric Project.

This appeal has been filed under Section 18 (1) read with Section 14, 15 & 16 of the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010, calling for the allotment to be unfair.
