In a rape and murder case involving a 7-year-old girl, a mahila court in Chengalpet, near Chennai on Monday (February 19) handed out death sentence to the convict.

Judge P Velmurugan held the convict, Daswant guilty under Sections 302 (Punishment for murder), 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of Indian Penal Code and 4 (Aggravated penetrative assault) and 5 (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The incident was happened on February 5, 2017 in which Daswant had lured, raped and killed the victim.

The verdict was delivered in record time in this case otherwise the rape and murder cases involving children takes years to culminate.
