Two Leaves bribery case: One accused gets bail; Dhinakaran appears before court

Former AIADMK treasurer T T V Dhinakaran on Wednesday (March 14) appeared before the Patiala House Court in Two Leaves symbol bribery case. Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar granted bail to advocate B Kumar, one of the accused in the case. He was asked to furnish a bail bond of Rs 50,000 and a similar amount in surety.

The court also asked police to reply to a plea by Karnataka minister V C Prakash to cancel a Lookout Circular (LoC) issued against him. The judge asked the police how an LOC was issued for a witness when he is not an accused.

VC Prakash is also under investigation in the case and was named as a prosecution witness in the case. Prakash has claimed he is an Australian citizen. Delhi police had got his statement recorded on May 2017 last year.

The court also enquired after Dhinakaran’s plans. The judge said Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan are making their own political parties. To this Dhinakaran replied that anybody can make a political party and “I don’t think it will affect our performance.”

The Income Tax department has also filed an application seeking court permission to interrogate Sukesh Chandrashekhar, the alleged middleman in the bribery case, for possession of assets disproportionate to his known source of income.

He had been found in possession of several luxury cars and other assets.
