Vehicular pollution: NGT orders violated; tribunal allows a week for full compliance

Many of the directives issued by the National Green Tribunal, headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, related to the recent pollution in Delhi NCR region have not been heeded. On the last day of hearing the counsel for NCT Delhi and other state corporations had said that while the government had issued notices as per the orders of the tribunal, and had asked for environmental compensation varying from Rs 1000-5,00,000 to be paid, some recipients of those notices had simply refused to pay. Not only that, they had continued to violate environmental norms.

The tribunal had ordered those people in violation of norms and orders to appear before the tribunal and said that there would be additional cost on violators.

On Tuesday (November 28) the bench asked the counsel to submit the status report of Sarojini Nagar. It has been heard that some diesel trucks are still running because supposedly, CNG trucks are not available. The tribunal issued directive that there has to be compliance of its order.

The bench also ordered the Ministry of Environment and Forests to check the working of the committee and submit the report by December 4, which is the next date of hearing.

The bench wants to dispose of all related matters on that day.
