The National Green Tribunal bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar on Friday (November 24) was informed that little work has been done on the beautification process of the Yamuna floodplains that the Tribunal is overseeing.

The work has to be done in three phases. To date 18 per cent of the work has been done and with regard to rehabilitation only 10 per cent. The work with regard to construction of 14 Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) only 2 per cent work has been completed.

On Friday the counsel appearing on behalf of the NCMG submitted that out 14 STPs only 7 had been established. The other STPs have to be financed by the DJB according to their meeting. Justice Kumar asked about the NCMG’s constitutional structure and whose responsibility it was to clean the river, its surroundings and floodplains.

The bench asked the counsels to submit details of the 14 STPs and also the details of work done.
